An ancient white wine variety also known as Piquepoul, which translates as ‘stings the lip’, referring to the grape’s high acidity. The most famous version is Picpoul de Pinet which produces taut, full-bodied whites that have wonderful herbal & citrus aromas. Picpoul vines thrive in sandy soils and so are only found in coastal vineyards. Some Portuguese & Spanish vineyards also grow Picpoul, where it is known as Picpoll or Avello.
Translated as ‘Spicy Lips’, this beautifully delicate white is a perfect match to oysters. Makes sense, as they are grown extremely close by! Think clean, crisp and refreshing flavours, balanced perfectly by the salinity found in fresh oysters, served with a squeeze of juicy lemon. A fresh goat’s cheese salad would be a wonderful vegetarian alternative.
