Translated roughly into ‘early one’, which refers to its early ripening on the vine - this robust, dark-skinned grape produces inky coloured red wines that are classically high in tannins & ABV. Intensely flavoured & often with a slight bitterness to it, Primitivo reds benefit from a few years ageing. The variety is grown in the USA under the name Zinfandel.
A special technique is employed for this wine, involving twisting the stem of the grapes to encourage a natural drying and flavour concentration of the grapes while they are still on the vine. A full-bodied and intense red, this is an excellent accompaniment to meals featuring game. Vegetarian/Vegan/Organic.
